For a few hours on the hottest evenings of summer and the coldest mornings of winter, our regional electrical grid runs additional generating plants in order to meet peak demand. These “peaker plants” are one of the most expensive, most polluting, least efficient sources of electricity we have. Fortunately, we have the power to do something about this!

In the face of overlapping crises of healthcare, housing, and climate—and now with President Trump's federal aid freeze jeopardizing many essential social services—we need clean, affordable, local energy to power our communities.

As you have likely seen in the news, Los Angeles is being ravaged by the Eaton Fire, Palisades Fire, and Hurst Fire surrounding the sprawling city, exacerbated by drought and high winds.

This month, people have been coming together all across our state to move forward on a transition to cleaner, affordable energy for all Vermonters.

Facing the climate crisis – and the underlying ‘ism’s that perpetuate it –  is the challenge of our time. It was what propelled me, as a teenager, to take that first, uncertain step to try to change the world we’ve been given.
