How To: Meet with Your Legislator

Legislator meetings help us create ongoing relationships with our representatives and offer them information about climate issues.

Why We Meet

  1. To build relationships between legislators and constituents

  2. To remind our legislators of or introduce them to the work we have done in the past

  3. To provide them with good information about climate justices issue

  4. To communicate specific policy asks

350VT volunteers in the Northeast Kingdom meet with Representative Katherine Sims

You can set up a meeting one-on-one with your representative or meet them with a group of people.

  1. Find out who your legislators are! You can search your legislators by town here.

  2. Let us know you are interested in contacting your legislators–please contact Mieke at mieke@350vt.org or Rebecca at rebecca@350vt.org

  3. If you want to meet your legislator(s) with a group, reach out to friends/neighbors in your community who might want to join you (or work with your local 350VT group/node). You can also ask Mieke or Rebecca to connect you with other folks already involved in your area.

  4. Set up a time for the group to meet with your legislator.

  5. Schedule a planning meeting with your group (preferably the week before, and up to a day before) to go over the agenda and roles.

  6. Meet!

  7. Let us know how it went here! We really appreciate if you can fill this out—it helps us see the impact we are having and also figure out which legislators we still need to talk with.
